World Youth Day, Sydney 2008

with 3 comments

Greetings! Today was the second day of Catechesis for our group. It was filled with beautiful music again and wise words from a different bishop today. The major highlight of the day would be Pope Benedict’s boat ride and drive around Sydney. I was able to see him for about 5 seconds because the pope-mobile was going a bit fast as you may watch below, but it is always amazing to get the opportunity to see the Holy Father and hear people from all around the world chanting “Benedetto!”

As far as our living environment; the three showers are working out great for all of us. If you have never experienced WYD before, during the WYD week, you receive meal tickets and lunch and dinner are served at certain stations usually following Catechesis or any other major activity of the day. Recently our diet has conisisted of mainly sausage, meat pies, and different forms of stew. I don’t know about the rest of the group but I am craving some rice and beans.

On another note, we have been celebrating Mass together everyday and are definitely looking inside ourselves and searching for ways to expand our love and knowledge of God. Tomorrow we will witness the stations of the cross. Please continue to pray for us and for vocations. Many thanks for all comments and prayers.

  2. Dear Cynthia,
I have been praying so much for all of you — I am just thrilled to see that you are on the trip. Thank you for doing the blog. Maybe you can come and share supper with us some night after the trip and tell us some of all that you were a part of.
    Much, much love,
    Sr. Elizabeth

  3. Hi. God bless you. Hey, if you are indeed looking for a way to “expand your love and knowledge of God”, please consider giving up meat-eating entirely.

The original Hebrew in the Bible is “lo tirtzach” which, when translated literally by The Complete Hebrew/English Dictionary by Reuben Alcalay is “you must not kill anything whatsoever”.

Not “you shall not kill” or “you shall not murder”, but “anything whatsoever”.

Ever killed an animal yourself? Ever been to a slaughterhouse? Not much love of God going on there, let me tell you. Please, PLEASE think deeply about it. Can’t imagine Jesus slitting a cow’s throat, can you? 🙂
